Following heavy monsoon rains, tragedy struck the south central village of Haldummulla in Sri Lanka when a landslide completely buried more than 70 houses and shops. The structures hit by the massive landslide included seven rows containing 10 houses each along with three official residences and 10 shops.
At this time, officials with Disaster Management report they have been successful in recovering the bodies of three people. Recovery efforts will continue as they estimate more than 150 additional people are missing.
