At 6:21 pm local time, an earthquake hit off the coast of New Zealand approximately 143 kilometers West Northwest of Raoul Island. It had a magnitude of 5.2, one of the more significant events in the region, only mitigated by the fact that it struck offshore instead of on land. This region is one of the most seismically active in the world. No statement has been released about possible tsunami activity as a result of this event. No injuries have yet been reported.
