Following months of speculation, Ford Australia has officially confirmed that they intend to end their participation with V8 Supercars following the 2015 racing season. Tim Edwards, CEO of Ford Performance Racing (FPR) said Ford Australia’s decision to discontinue their relationship has been difficult and will be “extremely disappointing” to their loyal fans; however, it was a business decision and one that will now allow FPR to focus on their long-term goals.
Edwards is thankful for the commercial relationship between FPR and Ford Australia as they made a highly successful team racking up nearly 50 wins, 150 visits to the podium and the last two Bathurst 1000 crowns. James Warburton, V8 Supercars boss hopes to welcome Ford back sometime in the future.
While Edwards admits that FPR is disappointed by Ford Australia’s decision to end their financial support following the 2015 racing season, he says now, FPR knows where they stand and can take necessary steps toward other opportunities, some of which are already on the negotiation table and others that have yet to be explored.
