New Orleans

Officers with the New Orleans Police Department responded to the scene of a shooting on Sunday evening where they found one victim. The shooting took place at the 2800 block of Orleans Avenue at approximately 7:30 p.m.

According to New Orleans police officers, the victim died as a result of wounds sustained during the shooting. At this time, few details are known about the shooting or what led to the incident. The identity of the victim, age and further details of his or her death are being kept confidential until the next of kin can be notified.

According to Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR), murder statistics in New Orleans have not changed drastically from 2013. First quarter of 2014 showed a 27.91 percent decrease in the number of murders from first quarter of 2013. However, second quarter of 2014 showed an increase of 17.65 percent from the same time period in 2013. Statistics for the third quarter of 2014 are not yet available.

A description of the suspect in the New Orleans shooting case or the means by which he or she fled the scene of the crime has not been released.
