Tornado

Reports have come in that a tornado has hit the town of Columbia, Mississippi. Reports coming in state that Highway 98 has been closed in Columbia after a reported tornado downed power lines in the area. The public are being warned not to travel in this area at this time. Other reports say that homes have been damaged by the twister trapping some residents and injuring local citizens. There are reports of vehicles that have been flipped over by the high winds.

A report from LALATE letting residents of Columbia know there was a tornado alert in the area came in and within eight minutes, a twister was reported to have touched down on the south side of the town and telling residents to immediately seek shelter. Now the reports of damage are coming in. There were reports during the event that debris falling from the sky and Highway 98 and Columbia-Purvis Road had downed power lines affecting the area. There are additional reports coming in of structural damage around Columbia, including damage to a mobile home park.

Assessment of damages and injuries will come as emergency personal can reach all the areas hit by the December 23 tornado. There have been no reports at this time of any fatalities from the twister.
