At 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening, officials from the North Hampton Police Department contacted the U.S. Coast Guard in Cape Charles after there were reports of a man near the Cape Charles fishing pier who stated he was in the water attempting to help a 15-year-old male battling the rough current and trying to get back to shore. It is unclear if the teen came from a boat in the water or from on shore.
A response boast from the Coast Guard outpost in Cape Charles and an Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter are currently en route to the last reported location of the missing teen.
