HollisMark Hollis the lead singer and founder of the 80s band Talk Talk died on Feb. 25, 2019. His death was confirmed by former Talk Talk’s bassist Paul Webb. Hollis was 64 years old. No cause of death has been released.

Webb wrote on his Facebook:

I am saddened and shocked to hear that Mark Hollis has died. He was a musical genius, and it was a privilege and honor to have been in the band with him. It has been many years since I have seen Mark, but like quite a few musicians from our generation, I have been influenced by his musical ideas.

Tim Pope, Talk Talk’s music video director, wrote on social media “Goodbye Mark. Condolences to his family. We had many laughs together.”

Hollis founded Talk Talk in 1981 with fellow band mates Paul Webb, Simon Brenner, and Lee Harris. The band broke up in 1991, and seven years later he released a solo album. After the release, he retired from music.

Harris asked the electronic band Unkle to take his name off the credits for their 1998 album “Psyence Fiction,” not wanting to be in the spotlight.

Talk Talk originally started as a synthpop band, but later evolved into experimental music. Some of their hits included “Laughing Stock” and “It’s My Life.”
