PerryActor Luke Perry of Beverly Hills, 90210, and Riverdale, has died today following the massive stroke he suffered last Wednesday, Feb, 27, 2019. This report was first confirmed by TMZ.

According to Perry’s rep, the actor was in the company of his family, including his two children, fiancé, ex-wife, mother, step-father, brother and sister, and many other close and friends and family.

Perry fans may recall that the actor was rushed to St.Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank after suffering a debilitating stroke last week. TMZ reported that doctors heavily sedated Perry in order to allow his brain enough time to recoup from the trauma inflicted by the stroke. However, it appears that the damage was too extensive as Perry was unable to recover.

Luke had a remarkable acting career which, according to most biographies, began in the 1980s. However, IMDb credits Perry with appearing in the 1969 film, The Hang Up. This clearly must be in error as Perry would have only been 3 years old at the time.

Nevertheless, as a teen actor, Luke began his TV career in 1987, appearing in the soap operas Loving and Another World. The teen heartthrob next landed the role of Dylan Mckay in the hit television, Beverly Hills, 90210. The TV drama was about a group of friends making their way through life from high school until adulthood while living in Beverly Hills, California. Perry appeared in 199 episodes before deciding to leave 90210. According to reports, the actor wanted to find more mature roles.

During his absence, he landed roles in several movies, including the 1997 film The Fifth Element.

In 1998, Perry returned to television and 90210. He also was featured in Oz, Jeremiah, and Windfall.

In 2007, Luke landed a role in the HBO series John from Cincinnati.

In 2015, Perry landed the role of Tim Olson in the Up Network original series Detective McLean: Ties That Bind.

In 2016 Perry landed the role of Fred Andrews on The CW’s Riverdale. The show premiered in January 2017.

Shortly following Luke’s death, Riverdale producers announced that they were shutting down the show for the day in order to mourn the actors death. In fact, the series executive producers issued the following statement:

We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the ‘Riverdale,’ Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.

Variety reports that Perry tributes began to pour in from around the world almost immediately after his death was announced.

Fans and friends worldwide will remember and celebrate Luke Perry life when ever they watch him perform in reruns of his old movies and appearances on TV. They are sure to look forward to his upcoming appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is scheduled to be released in July, 2019.
