
According to the ANSA news agency, a third baby in recent months born in Italy who has died when their parents tried to circumcise their child at home.
The baby boy’s mother who is 25 years old, in Genoa, Italy, called emergency services on April 2, 2019. When medical personnel arrived at the home, the child was already dead.
The report says the baby’s mother and grandmother were taken by police to be questioned. The boy’s father was not in the country. It is not known if he was aware that his wife planned to circumcise the child at home.
It has been reported that those investigating the case, another person was brought to the home to circumcise the child. Phone records from the family of the baby are being investigated.
This is the third case of a baby dying when parents tried to circumcise at home, within a few months.
In March 2019, a five-month-old baby went into cardiac arrest in Bologna when parents tried to circumcise at home. In December 2018, Parents tried to circumcise themselves a 2-year-old and his twin brother. The toddler died from blood loss. His twin came close to losing his life but was able to be saved.
The majority of people in Italy are Roman Catholic and do not believe in circumcision. However, there are many Muslims from immigration who circumcise due to cultural and religious reasons.
Many people can not afford circumcision due to the expense, and medical personnel often refuse to perform the surgery on boys who are younger than four years old.
