The casting news for the live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” is ramping up. On July 16, word broke that former member of One Direction, Harry Styles, was in contention for the part of Prince Eric. Now, it seems like Javier Bardem might also be joining the cast.
According to a report from “Deadline,” Bardem is currently in talks to potentially take on the role of King Triton in the remake. This would mean that the actor would be playing Ariel’s father in the live-action film.
Although the Oscar winning actor is still only in the talks phase of casting, it certainly seems as if he will be the next King Triton. While there are still plenty of casting decisions that need to be made, it looks like “The Little Mermaid” remake is coming together quickly now that Disney has their Ariel. Hopefully confirmation of Javier Bardem’s casting comes quickly, as he seems like a great choice to take on the role of the mermaid/merman king.
Even with this potential casting news, there are still a few projects in the works for Bardem, who is set to be a part of the upcoming “Dune” movie as well, alongside Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, and others. For now, fans of both the actor and “The Little Mermaid” will have to wait to learn if he truly will be the next king of the sea.
