Broadway actress, Laurel Griggs, who appeared in multiple movies and television shows has died. She was 13 years old.
According to Griggs’ Dignity Memorial page, she died on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. There was a funeral for the teenager on Friday at Park West Riverside in New York City. She was buried in the Montefiore Cemetery. Her cause of death was not revealed until Nov. 10.
According to the Griggs family, she died while suffering and “massive asthma attack.”
Her grandfather said she was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital; however, doctors were not able to revive her.
“The world lost a real princess who only wanted to make the future happy for all. Acting was just a childhood dream come true and she had big plans for the future,” stated Griggs’ grandfather, David Rivlin.
Her debut performance on Broadway was as Polly in “Cat on a Hot Tim Roof” in 2013. She played alongside Scarlett Johansson. Additionally, she played in Stave Carrell’s “Café Society” in 2016, and several episodes of “Saturday Night Live.”
Griggs told her Instagram followers that playing on “SNL” was the “most amazing night of her life.”
According to IMDB, her longest run was in the Tony-award winning musical, “Once” as Ivanka. She performed in that role for 17 months between 2013 and 2015.
Upon hearing the news of Griggs’ death, Young Broadway tweeted:
“We are saddened to share that Laurel Griggs passed away this week at the age of 13. Laurel was a brilliant young lady who appeared on Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Once. We send our condolences to her loved ones at this difficult time.”
The young teen lived with her parents in New York City, and she attended public school.
Eliza Holland Madore, from “Once,” paid tribute to Griggs on Instagram:
“I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of one of my Ivanka sisters. Laurel – you were always smiling and always made other people laugh.”
