Brooke-Taylor
On Sunday, April 12, 2020, British comedian, actor, and writer, Tim Brooke-Taylor passed away. His death is due to complications from COVID-19.

His Birth and Career

Brooke-Taylor was born on July 17, 1940, in Buxton, Derbyshire, England. He studied law at Pembroke College at Cambridge University in England. His friend, actor/comedian John Cleese was also studying law there. The two would swap notes for class on a regular basis.

While studying at Cambridge, he joined Cambridge University Footlights Club, and later he became its president. Cleese, Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden, Jo Kendall, and David Hatch were cast members for a successful BBC radio show, “I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again.” He was also a part of the “At Last the 1948 Show,” which aired in 1967.

The Actors Family and More Career

Brooke-Taylor married Christine Wheadon in 1968, and they have two sons together. In 1970, he created the show “The Goodies,” with Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie. The show was about a three-man agency whose motto was “Do any job, anytime.” They did a variety of odd jobs throughout the 77 episodes.

The actor/writer was also part of the show, “Engelbert with the Young Generation,” which aired in West Germany on Jan. 9, 1972. He was a regular on the BBC radio show, “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.”

Between the years 1980 and 1983, he was the Rector (Head) of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. At the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, he was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), for his services to Light Entertainment.

He is survived by his wife, and sons Ben and Edward. He was 79 at the time of his death. May he rest in peace.
