The district in Georgia that sent Marjorie Taylor Greene to Congress is deciding how to replace her and if President Donald Trump should make the choice.

Trump’s Choice to Replace Greene

The candidate who was endorsed by Trump, Clay Fuller, has a very different perspective on the war in Iran than Greene.

NBC News asked him about his position. “I fully support the President and his efforts in Iran and the Middle East.”

He continued: “The other thing that I hear from voters, they want to hear people be reminded that the Iranian regime, since 1979, has killed or maimed thousands of Americans. So this is something that President Trump is holding them accountable for, the Americans that they’ve killed since 1979, they understood that the Iranian regime was a national security threat to the United States and the State of Israel.”

Greene resigned her House seat in January, but has been outspoken and critical of the administration’s actions. “We voted for no more foreign wars, no more regime change, and to stop paying for foreign wars,” but after “a year, Trump starts a major war in Iran for Israel, destabilizing the Middle East, costing over $1 billion dollars a day, driving up the cost of gas, and tragically are killing innocent children they claim to be liberating,” Greene posted on X.

More on Fuller

Fuller is a former prosecutor and Air Force veteran. He is also one of almost 20 candidates, and his endorsement from Trump did little to streamline the crowded contest.

“We’re the candidate that’s going to have his back on Capitol Hill. Even though some other candidates in this race may say that they’re 100% pro-Trump, I think it’s important for the voters to ask them what percentage they are now that President Trump has endorsed us,” Fuller said outside the polls in Rome, Georgia.

Other Candidates to Replace Greene

Colton Moore is a former state senator who ran campaign ads as the true “America First” candidate and Trump loyalist in the contest. He dismissed the importance of a Trump endorsement, saying, “The swamp money has come against us.”

“There’s a lot of folks who talk a big conservative game, but when it comes down to doing conservative stuff, they’re nowhere to be found. We need to find a fighter, a legislator, who’s willing to bring that fight with true vigor,” Moore stated in an interview on talk radio.

Pastor Tom Gray expressed support for Trump and added, “We’re independent thinkers and decision makers.”

Former Greene staffer Jim Tully is a longtime Republican activist on the ballot. He has shared his admiration for Trump and said, “We’ve never talked about this being President Trump’s district. This district belongs to the people.”

Is a Democrat a Possibility?

The 14th Congressional District covers 10 counties spanning from the suburbs of Atlanta to the Appalachian foothills along the Tennessee state line.

CNN reports the district is “ruby-red Trump country” but with enough Democrats and independents to stir things up in a special election that sends the top two, regardless of party, into an April runoff if no candidate wins more than 50 percent.

Fuller says, “If Georgia turns blue, it would be a tragedy for the president’s agenda. We as a party need to start having an honest conversation about that.”

Shawn Harris lost to Greene in 2024. He is a retired Marine brigadier general, and the Democrat Republicans worry about the most.

He won almost 135,000 votes in 2024, but the turnout in Tuesday’s special election is expected to be lower.

Harris said the Republicans encouraged him to change parties, but instead, he is recruiting moderates and disillusioned Republicans to his campaign.

“Voting is not church. You don’t have to confess. You just have to go in there and do what’s best for you, your family, and your grandkids,” Harris stated in an interview.
