New York Times profile reveals Jim Parsons is gay

Today, in his New York Times Profile, Jim Parsons revealed that he is gay. Parsons indicated that he has been in a relationship with the same man for 10 years. As a sign of changing times, he does not expect that this bombshell revelation will impact his life or career.

In the past two weeks since Obama recently came out in support of gay marriage, it appears as though more and more people are willing to come out and be honest about their sexual preferences. Civil Rights Organizations, celebrities and other influential figures have rushed to echo Obama’s sentiment.

Now that the list of gay actors is growing, there is an increasing criticism of the practice of casting straight actors to play gay characters. But is that a dangerous double edge sword? Gay community activists should tread lightly. Otherwise, they may spawn reciprocal calls for a prohibition against gay actors playing straight characters.
