Horse racing fans are certainly disappointed today as many of them feel they have been cheated out of a chance to witness history. It was a magic moment denied, leaving the sport anguishing over what might have been. Racing fans will now have to enjoy the talents that Union Rags or Dullahan will put on display. Which one will win? It’s anybody’s guess. The Belmont Stakes has a lengthy history of longshots breezing along to victory. Belmont’s mile-and-a-half length is the longest competitive run any of these horses have ever run. Therefore, it is highly possible that neither of these race horses will finish in the one or two spot.
So perhaps today, we’ll have to settle for the consolation prize of watching the Belmont Stakes, not knowing who will win, not knowing what could have been, or you can do what I plan to do. As soon as the Belmont Stakes is over, I will get up, turn on the TBO and watch reruns of “I’ll Have Another” in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
