In February, we learned that Christina Aguilera received a special surprise for Valentine’s Day; her boyfriend Matt Rutler popped the question and she said yes. Then shortly after, rumors started swirling that the happy couple were expecting a baby together, although those reports were not immediately confirmed. However, now, it is official; Christina Aguilera and fiancé Matt Rutler are expecting, and the pop star is pregnant with a baby girl.
Aguilera put all the rumors to rest during a performance in Malaysia on Friday. While she was on stage performing, she shared the happy news with her fans confirming that she is indeed pregnant and this time it is a baby girl.
While the pregnancy was not planned and came as quite a surprise to the two lovebirds, sources say Aguilera is completely “over the moon” about having another child; she loves being a mom and cannot wait to add to their family.
So was news of Christina Aguilera’s pregnancy with a baby girl what prompted Rutler to propose when he did? According to sources, the answer in no. The baby did not have anything to do with his proposal. He had been planning to pop the question long before he and Aguilera found out they were pregnant. In fact, he started the process of designing an engagement ring for Aguilera more than a year ago in preparation for the day when he would ask her to become his wife.
Aguilera and Rutler first met in 2010 while on the set of Burlesque. At the time, she was going through a divorce with then husband Jordan Bratman. Aguilera’s marriage to Bratman lasted five years. They were married in November 2005, but happy ever after just was not in the cards for them so they parted ways. In February 2011, their divorce was finalized allowing Aguilera to get on with her life and cement her relationship with Rutler.
Rutler put a lot of thought into proposing to Aguilera and wanted to ensure it was both special and romantic. In February of this year, with the newly designed engagement ring in hand, Rutler ushered Aguilera to a romantic gazebo setting in the backyard of their unfinished Los Angeles home where he asked her the question nearly all women want to hear. He wore a suit for the special occasion and decorated the gazebo with lots of red roses and candles. Sources say Aguilera had no idea he was going to pop the question and was completely shocked. Following her answer, a big fat yes, the happy couple went out with family and friends to celebrate their upcoming nuptials.
This will be the couple’s first child together. Aguilera already has one child, a son named Max who is six-years-old, with her ex-husband Jordan Bratman. There has been no word yet what Max thinks about becoming a big brother or how he feels about having a new baby sister in the house.
It is unclear when Christina Aguilera and Matt Rutler plan to tie the knot; right now, they are focusing on the pregnancy and the arrival of their baby girl.
