Same-Sex Marriage Legalization: Elton John Is Getting Married

Same-Sex Marriage

With the legalization of same-sex marriage in England also came the news that Elton John is getting married. The musician has already entered into a civil partnership with David Furnish on Dec. 12, 2005. With the enforcement of the new British law that allows same-sex partners to marry, they will validate their relationship again.

Registered same-sex partnerships were implemented in the United Kingdom in 2005. The possibility of marriage does not bring any new rights. Among other things, same-sex couples were allowed to adopt a child together even before the new law. Upon the implementation of the law on same-sex marriage, British Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to all same-sex couples who have already married and to all those who will do this on this historical day.” Now that the legalization of same-sex marriage is confirmed, Elton John announced that he is getting married in May.

“Elton and I are getting married. As a high-profile couple we feel that it is our duty to do it. We want everyone to know that this is something that many gay people who live in England never dreamed could happen. Elton is aware that people take notice of what he says and does, so we want to celebrate this historical moment with the wedding, “said David for the Attitude magazine.

They both also want marriage so that they can address each other with my husband.” “Elton and I think that it is a big difference between someone calling you partner or calling you husband. Partner is such an impersonal word and does not adequately describe the love that we feel for each other,” explains David. The couple also hopes that this action will set an example for their sons. “Once Zachary and Elijah will grow up and have their own children, I hope that they will live in a world in which everyone will be equal. And when marriage will no longer be differentiated between heterosexual and same-sex couples, but will only mark a relationship between two people,“ David also said.

Elton John and David Furnish met in 1993 at a dinner party Elton was hosting. John then made the first step and asked David for his phone number. The next evening they had their first date. Their relationship was not always easy and they had their ups and downs. But they have successfully overcome all of them. “Meeting David has been the greatest thing that happened to me,” John said when they entered into a civil partnership in 2005.

Their long-standing desire to have children came true on Christmas Day in 2010. A surrogate mother gave birth to a boy, which they named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. Soon the couple revealed that they want to have another child. On Jan. 11, 2013, they got another son from the same surrogate mother who gave birth to Zachary. They named the boy Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John. Legalization of same-sex marriage is another big dream come true for this couple and Elton John is finally getting married.

Same sex marriage…. I am a Christian but I also say , why not? David has made Sir Elton happier than he’s ever been and Elton has spent his entire life doing everything he could to make the rest of us happy. The man deserves peace, love, happiness and a family.
