An Anne Arundel law enforcement officer is currently in critical condition after local police stated he was shot after being involved in an altercation with a man in an convenience store in Annapolis early Friday morning. They stated the officer encountered a suspicious man in a 7-11 on East College Parkway at about 2:20 a.m. Following a short foot chase, the man shot the officer in the upper body, according to police officials.

The shooting happened around 100 to 200 feet from the 7-11. Dozens of officers were on the scene as of this morning.

They speculate that the man was carrying a firearm. Law enforcement officers, along with a K9 unit, searched the area. Though, the man still remains at large. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect is said to be an African-American male, in the age range of 20 to 30, and was seen to be between five feet four inches and five feet eight inches height, wearing dark pants and a dark-colored hoodie. Annapolis police are asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the tip line at 410-222-4700.

The current condition of the officer is unknown. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock and Trauma Center.
