In January, the Justice Department released what it claimed to be the last of the documents to the Epstein files database, however, it appears some were withheld and others were removed, according to an NPR investigation.

NPR Investigation

NPR reviewed sets of unique serial numbers stamped on the documents in the files, FBI case records, discovery logs, and emails and learned dozens of pages were catalogued but not shared by the Justice Department.

Missing documents include more than 50 pages of FBI interviews and notes from conversations with a woman who accused Trump of sexual abuse when she was a minor decades ago.

NPR reached out to the Department of Justice asking question about specific files: what is in them and why were they not published? They declined to answer. The Department later told NPR they had issues with how its responses to questions were framed by NPR and spokeswoman for the Department Natalie Baldassarre reiterated that any documents not released to the public are privileged, duplicates or related to an ongoing investigation.

House Oversight Committee’s ranking member Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif. released this statement following NPR’s report:

“Yesterday, I reviewed unredacted evidence logs at the Department of Justice. Oversight Democrats can confirm that the DOJ appears to have illegally withheld FBI interviews with this survivor who accused President Trump of heinous crimes.”

House Oversight Committee Democrats have been investigating the allegation against the president and will open a parallel investigation into the Department’s decision to not release these specific documents, according to NPR.

Also missing from public view pertain to another woman who was a key witness for the prosecution in Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal trial. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking.

NPR asked about the accusations and missing reports. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded:

“Just as President Trump has said, he’s been totally exonerated on anything relating to Epstein. And by releasing thousands of of pages of documents, cooperating with the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena request, signing the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and calling for more investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends, President Trump has done more for Epstein’s victims than anyone before him. Meanwhile, Democrats like Hakeem Jeffries and Stacey Plaskett have to explain why they were soliciting money and meetings from Epstein after he was a convicted sex offender.”

On Feb. 14, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche insisted in a letter to Congress that no records were withheld or redacted “on the bases of embarrassment, reputational harm, of political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary,” as reported by Politico.

Accusations of Trump in Epstein Files

The newly released tranche of files show the FBI internally circulated allegations that mention Trump during July and August of 2025. One lead was sent to the FBI’s Washington office to set up an interview with the accuser.

The woman directly named Trump in her allegations of abuse claiming around 1983, when she was 13, Epstein introduced her to Trump. She said he “subsequently forced her head down to his exposed penis which she subsequently bit. In response, Trump punched her in the head and kicked her out.”

NPR reports that out of the three million plus pages released by DOJ recently, this specific allegation against Trump only appears on copies of the FBI list of claims in the DOJ slideshow.

However, a review of FBI case logs and discovery files turned over during Maxwell’s trial point to one place the claim originated from and how seriously investigators took the allegations.

This accuser was interviewed by the FBI four times, according to an FBI “Serial Report” and a list of non-testifying witness material in the Maxwell case released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The first interview conducted on July 24, 2019 that does not mention Trump is the only one in the public database.

In the Maxwell discovery material material there were 15 documents listed for this accuser, only seven of them are in the Epstein files database. Included in the missing are notes from three of those interviews. This discrepancy was first reported by independent journalist Roger Sollenberger.

NPR reviewed three different set of serial numbers stamped onto the documents and reports there appear to be 53 pages of interview documents and notes missing from the database.

Missing Elements

According to the documents related to the accuser’s first interview, she used a cropped image to identify Epstein. Her attorney told investigators the photo was cropped because she “was concerned about implicating additional individuals, and specifically any that were well known, due to fear of retaliation.”

Agents noted the image was a “widely distributed photograph” of Epstein with Trump.

Garcia shared a letter he sent to Bondi with NPR asking why dozens of pages of interviews and notes related to sexual abuse allegations against Trump are missing from the recently released documents.

In a statement to NPR, Garcia writes: “We are witnessing a White House cover-up of serious allegations against the president by a survivor. We demand Attorney General Pam Bondi come clean about why these documents are being hidden, comply with our legally binding subpoena by sharing all records, and tell the American people if their president is under investigation for allegations of sexual assault.”
