On Monday, March 23, 2026, the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special” premiere drew multiple celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, Alex Cooper, JoJo Siwa, and more.
Cyrus celebrated the event with a red carpet premiere at the El Capitan Theatre, and credited a Variety interview with planting the seeds for the revival.
The Variety Interview
“You started all this. You started the drama. I just kind of like, mentioned my bangs and my blonde the last time I saw you, and then this happened.”
In January, during a red carpet interview at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Cyrus stated she was “working hard” on anniversary plans for “Hannah Montana,” but did not confirm the special. According to Variety, “she simply said with a smile, ‘You see the bangs.”
Cyrus was happy to honor her “iconic popstar persona” for the anniversary event, but said she does not have the energy for a reboot.
“Girl, I’m already tired,” she said when asked. “This has already been a lot.”
‘Hannah Montana’ Red Carpet Guests
Cyrus’ mom and special co-excecutive producerTish Cyrus-Purcell and sister Brandi, along with original cast members: Cody Linley, Anna Perez de Tagle, Jason Earles, Mitchell Musso, Mateo Arias, and Shanica Knowles all walked the red carpet.
“Hannah Montana” premiered in March 2006 on the Disney Channel and ran until 2011 for four seasons. Cyrus played the role of Miley Stewart, a teenager who lived a double life as a pop star. Billy Ray Cyrus played her dad.
The 20th anniversary special premieres on March 24 on Disney+ and Hulu. It will feature Cyrus singing some of the most popular songs from the series, an interview with Cyrus conducted by Alex Cooper, and a special appearance from Selena Gomez, who was a guest star during Season 2 as rival Mikayla Skeech.
In a recent interview with Variety, Cyrus said, “I learned this terrible habit – but I actually think it was good advice – from Dolly [Parton]. She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a ‘Hannah Montana‘ 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.”
