Apple seems to have prematurely revealed the name of the rumored lower-cost MacBook Neo, the model expected to be announced on Wednesday.

According to MacRumors, a regulatory document for the “MacBook Neo,” Model A3404 has appeared on Apple’s website. No further details are yet available. The PDF does not contain the words “MacBook Neo” but the name briefly appeared in a link on the Apple website for EU compliance purposes.

There are rumors that the lower-cost MacBook will feature an iPhone chip like the A18 Pro or A19 Pro rather than an M-series chip and a 12.9-inch display. It is also rumored that they will come in fun color options like green, yellow, blue, and/or pink.

The new portable would fall in line under the MacBook Air in the lineup. The cost has not been announced, but the estimated range is $500 to $799.

Apple has never before released a MacBook for under $1,000. The new budget MacBook allows Apple to rethink the MacBook Air and provide some much-needed upgrades to its mid-range options.

On Wednesday, March 4, at 9 a.m. EST,  “Apple Experience” gatherings in New York, Shanghai, and London will allow the media hands-on time with the new release. There is no Apple Event live stream available for this launch.

MacBook History

MacBook Air has occupied the low-end slot in the world of portable Macs. It has the lowest price, the lowest-end chips, and the least advanced display. However, for the majority of Air consumers, it is more than enough. It is the best Mac portable for most people, but the release of a less expensive MacBook will change that perception, according to MacWorld.
