On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Britney Spears, 44, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and processed at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

The Arrest

CNN obtained her booking information, which showed she was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) around 9:30 p.m. and booked at 3 a.m. and released Thursday morning.

Her vehicle was towed by CHP after her arrest.

Spears Family Response

Her inner circle hopes the judge offers her treatment options instead of jail time, according to TMZ. A representative for the singer told Star, “Hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” calling it an “unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.”

The representative continued, “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

According to sources familiar with the investigation, an unknown substance was found in her vehicle and is now being tested as part of the arrest, as well as an early morning blood draw, reports TMZ.

Reportedly, Spears was released from jail Thursday morning around 6 a.m. She has been in and out of rehab facilities for more than a decade after her public breakdown.

Previous Legal Issues

In 2007, Spears was charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run. After she paid for the damages, the charges were dropped.

A year later, she was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation, and her father was granted temporary conservatorship over her assets. It was supposed to be a temporary arrangement that was later extended and lasted for 13 years.

Fans began the “Free Britney” movement aimed at ending the conservatorship, which was terminated in 2021.

Since then, she has primarily been seen through social media posts, often dancing in videos posted on Instagram. Her account was not available on Thursday.

Spears is expected to appear in court on May 4.
