All PlayStation Network (PSN) services are back online. The cause of the outage is unknown, but it lasted for approximately two hours, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, one of the biggest gaming days of the year.

Sony continues to monitor the situation and will post updates as they are made available.

PSN Outage

The PlayStation Network outage affected Gaming and Social, Challenges, Game Help, Game Streaming, Tournaments, and Trophies on both the PS5 and PS4. Even as users reported service restoration, the network continued to report active issues.

The message Sony posted to users said, “You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

The outage occurred the same weekend as the launch of “Crimson Desert” on PlayStation. adding to player frustration. Online complaints revealed widespread irritation across social media, affecting most players attempting to connect.

“Crimson Desert” is a long-awaited open-world action title from Pearl Abyss, which has received mixed reception. Players have been eager to determine their own opinions of the game.

According to Downdetector, which tracks and logs outage complaints in real time, there was a sharp spike from PlayStation users in the afternoon and reached a peak of over 14,000 users. At the time of the most recent update, there were still 6,000 complaints, indicating the issue has not been completely resolved.

A notable number of OSN users are still experiencing issues in various areas, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Canada, and Ontario. Geography does not seem to be the determining factor. A user on Reddit stated they had two consoles in the same household, and one was online, but the other was unable to connect.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is preparing to phase out the “PlayStation Network” name and “PSN” abbreviation that has defined the gaming system since 2006 by September 2006. This shift is entirely cosmetic, and nothing else will be affected. Sony has not announced the name that will replace PSN, but there have been internal indications that it will reflect the expanded reach of the platform across console, PC, cloud gaming, and entertainment streaming.

The PSN status page continues to list Gaming and Social issues, though some players have reported a full recovery.
