Donald Trump has gone from combover to a political contender as he continues to pursue a bid for the 2016 Republican Presidential nomination. While the mogul is certainly no stranger to controversy, his antics thus far have been stunning even by his standards. His comments regarding immigration and Mexicans, in particular, have cost him dearly in terms of his endorsement, licensing, and TV deals. Many of these relationships are irrevocably broken. His remarks regarding other candidates are schoolboyish and slanderous. Yet, there is no denying he has momentum and popularity in some circles. His Republican bid for the U.S. presidency is no laughing matter, as Trump has proven that he is a contender despite his infamous combover.
“The Combover” was a nickname given to Trump early on in his reality TV days due to his unique hairstyle. He continues to deny rumors that it is a toupee and claims it is his natural coif. If that is, in fact, the case, how unfortunate. At least if it was a hair piece, there would be a remedy for it. As it stands, it defies explanation how someone as wealthy as Trump has a head of hair only a mother could love.
A rug or real hair aside, Donald Trump has gone from combover to a political contender. He is determined to leave an indelible mark on the 2016 Campaign. However, the question remains–will that mark end up being positive or negative? Not only in regards to the TV personality himself but the country as a whole. Despite his repeated, unapologetic, and highly offensive rhetoric, the business mogul has established a political support base. Honestly, that is equal parts saddening and sickening. However, it does speak to the disillusionment of many Americans, not only from a political perspective but also on the patriotic front.
One of Trump’s main sentiments that he has expressed since announcing his bid is that the United States needs to start “winning” again. From the War on Terror, al-Qaeda, war efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., as well as the steady decline of America as a superpower nation, there is some credence to his claims. However, he has not proposed any concrete plan of action to remedy the situation and improve American lives. Instead, he just continues to spew his inflammatory and offensive point of view while claiming all of the nation’s politicians are idiots. Granted, there are a few politicos that should be classified as useless and drummed out of Washington D.C., as well as government altogether, but Trump is not the solution to the “Washington Establishment” and he offers no answers to the true problems of the nation.
Why is no one questioning Trump’s qualifications to run for President of the United States in the first place? Yes, he is a natural-born U.S. citizen over 35 years of age, but he has also declared bankruptcy four times. The business mogul claims that all of his bankruptcies have been business-related and he has never declared personal bankruptcy. However, if he has managed to run his businesses into bankruptcy multiple times, imagine what he could do with the U.S. economy? Moreover, if his handling of immigration matters thus far are any indication, how would Trump perform on the world stage as a diplomatic agent? The potential fallout from these aspects alone boggles the mind.
Of course, there is also Trump’s contention that he will do wonders for women. He claims that many women have thrived within his company and under his tutelage. Namely, Omarosa Manigault, who rose to fame on Season 1 of Trump’s reality TV show, The Apprentice. As a woman, the author of this article finds that claim both frightening and offensive. If Trump is supposed to be a voice for women, the gender is better off silent. All one must do to dispute his claim is take a look at the women in his life. Although they do seem to be intelligent women, they are mired in the stink that is Trump. His egomaniacal spectre and grandiose limelight make them appear to be overgrown Barbie Dolls. However, whether or not that is an accurate representation of the women remains to be seen. They are, like most things, overshadowed by “The Donald.” This is a problem on many levels. Namely, when it comes to addressing the issues concerning the nation.
As he continues to pursue a bid for the 2016 Republican Presidential nomination, Donald Trump has gone from combover to a political contender. While the mogul is certainly no stranger to controversy, his antics thus far have been stunning even by his standards. His comments regarding immigration and Mexicans, in particular, have cost him dearly in terms of his endorsement, licensing, and TV deals. To date, NBC has cut all ties with him, cancelled The Apprentice, and have refused to air the Miss USA as well as Miss Universe pageants. Moreover, many Latin American countries are refusing to send contestants to compete in the pageants. Both Univision and Televisa networks have severed all ties with the mogul and refuse to do any future business with his companies. Furthermore, other high-profile deals including Macy’s, Serta, and the Professional Golf Association (PGA) have also ended in the wake of Trump’s offensive rants. Yet, there is no denying he has momentum and popularity in some circles. His Republican bid for the U.S. presidency is no laughing matter, as the TV personality has proven that he is a contender despite his infamous combover. Just how serious a political contender Trump turns out to be remains to be seen.
