Madonna’s Video Did Not Save ‘Medellin.’ Song Continues to Drop on iTunes

Madonna
Madonna released her video for her struggling song “Medellin” on April 24, 2019. Fans prayed a fantastic video from Madonna would help boost the song. Unfortunately, it did not help.

Madonna‘s fans are fanatical about her. They will love her no matter what she does. However, this was Madonna’s big comeback single after the worst selling album of her career four years ago “Rebel Heart.” Like Donald Trump, only catering to his base, Madonna is doing the same.

The video which generally boosts sales did the exact opposite with Medellin, and it continues to sink like a stone on iTunes.

Madonna needed a strong showing to compete with the artists of 2019. One can not live on past accomplishments to remain relevant unless, of course, you are catering only to a fan base. One must continue to expand a fan base with people who were not born when Madonna first started her career.

This was a very weak single to release as an introduction to a new album (“Madame X” is due to drop on June 14, 2019.)

Also, it is very unusual to release a big comeback single the same day as an artist who is one of the most popular out there. Madonna released her comeback single the same day “The Queen B” Beyonc√© dropped her album.

Second, it is terrific Madonna wants to go back to her Latin roots and do a duet. However, it never should have been her first single. If she wanted to hit the mainstream and get her name back out there, she should have done what she does best and what the mainstream wants,  which is a pop/dance song updated for 2019.

An auto-tuned duet was not the way to go. Even hardcore groupies of Madonna complained about this on fan forums. They wanted Madonna to open with a solo offering.

Besides Beyonce, Madonna is now up against artists such as Taylor Swift (who already made history and broke YouTube records with her single “ME!” as being the most played video ever within the first 24 hours of release from a solo artist), and P!Nk. Her record label should have seen this and changed the release date so all PR would have been on her single.

Will “Madame X” be Madonna’s worst selling album ever? Only time will tell.

Madonna and her record company cannot be happy with these numbers. Fans will continue to pray remixes will save the single. Also never a good sign. The purpose of remixes is to enhance a new hit single. Not to save it.
